Happy New Year everyone - and here we are again fast approaching the February Bull Sales. Please take note of the following dates and times, and a very important social event which hopefully will be of interest.

Scottish Club social
This is in the form of a Supper and Race Night, starting at 6.45pm on Saturday 3 February at the Stirling Golf Club, Queens Road, Stirling FK8 3AA. Cost: £15, tickets must be booked ahead. [rosemarydickie@farming.co.uk / 07887737040] and payable to Rosemary Dickie.
The Society annual dinner and prize giving
The Beef Shorthorn Cattle Society annual dinner and prize giving takes place on Sunday 4 February, arriving 7pm for 7.30pm, at the Stirling Highland Hotel, Spittal Street, Stirling FK8 1DU. Tickets are £30 each including wine at the table and can booked by contacting Jo Bailey, Breed Secretary on 07399 452015 / jobailey@beefshorthorn.org.
Insurance matters
We have been asked to circulate a polite reminder regarding insurances. Please remember that when any events out of the normal farm remit are organised, whether this is the use of a field for car parking, a herd visit or just a party in a field, you must notify your [or the host farm’s) insurance company of the date, event and expected number of visitors. Where events are organised under the auspices of the Society you must get in touch with Jo Bailey, Breed Secretary, in good time so that she can notify the Society’s insurers.
A risk assessment must also be completed for each event. Please contact us if you require a template. There is also an HSE trailer guidance information sheet. If visitors are going to be transported round the farm, the trailer must meet the standards required. These directives are only to protect you the farmer/organiser.
Society merchandise
Have you noticed the new Shorthorn merchandise on the website or in the back of the new journal? There are polo shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, body warmers, ladies/gents soft shell jackets, badges, pins and cuff links. Sweatshirts and hoodies can be reverse printed with wording of your choice for £2.50 per garment. All garments can be embroidered with wording of your choice for £1.50 per garment. A huge choice of colours can be found. P&P is £10 per order and all prices exclude VAT. Please email your orders to: jobailey@beefshorthorn.org.
Annual subscriptions
