Overall Champion Ribbleview Rita Janet

The Overall champion at the Annual Show and Sale of Beef Shorthorn cattle held under the auspices of the Beef Shorthorn Cattle Society was Ribbleview Rita Janet, on the debut of Josh Wilson’s Ribbleview herd at the Skipton sale. Rita Janet came with an impressive show record having previously been the 2021 Stars of the Future Champion and numerous local shows. The red Crooked Post Tobias daughter bred from the Sprys All Gold cow Mineshop Janet has a 600day wt agin of of +54 and joined Mesrs Nicholson of Cannon Hall Farm, Barnsley for 4900gns. The reserve champion was Highlee Enya Rita a Coldrochie Leif bred heifer out of a homebred cow sold incalf to Millerston Roly, shown by Mark and Tracy Severn of Barkisland which sold for 3500gns to MJ Atkinson of Briercliffe.

Top price of the day was Clipper X1602 of Upsall sold by Hon Gerald Turton. The Mandalong of Upsall sired heifer bred from a Glenisla Zetor bred cow, sold free of the bull, to AC Farms (Langhams) for 7300gns, after winning one of the days junior heifer classes. The Senior heifer class was won by Stuart Currie’s Beautry herd with Beautry Rose Peony a sweet light roan heifer incalf for February sired by Stonehills Jackpot out of an Excaliber daughter which joined Cannon Hall Farm for 4500gns.

The first and second prize bulls were consigned by AC Farms and their champion Langhams Picton Legend a mobile son of Northern Legend bred back to the Canadian bull Diamond Captain found a new home with Canon Hall Farm for 4000gns.

A near total clearance of cattle sold to a very busy ringside with a high quality entry drawing significant interest around the UK and a good number finding new homes with buyers on the internet.
