Morrisons Beef Shorthorn steers to £1,420: Longtown Mart

Steers sold to a top of £1,420 in the Morrisons supported section of October’s Kircambeck sale at Longtown Mart. The event attracted 128 Beef Shorthorn and Beef Shorthorn cross store cattle from 14 consignors.

The award for the highest price pure-bred went to Willis Graham`s Fieldhouse herd from Ilton, Ripon with a July 2019 born steer making £1,420.  Mr Graham sold another at £1,350 with his entry of 17 averaging £1,167.

Messrs Cartmel, Winter Crag, Ullswater took the prize for the highest price Shorthorn cross with a December 2019 steer at £1,240. Other entries from the Cartmel’s 10-strong consignment made to £1,160.

Beef Shorthorns from P. Bell, Kirndean, Newcastleton topped at £1,150 and £1,130 with others from Messrs Crew, The Gall to £1,130 with a £1,005 average for their consignment; H. Douglas and Son, Howahill sold to £1,110 and £1,060, J. and E. Dinwoodie, Archerbeck to £1,100 and £1,070, R. and J. Tyson, Moor Farm to £1,100 and Matthew Thomson, Pilmuir to £1,030. 

The overall Shorthorn and Shorthorn cross average for all ages was £927.

The next Morrisons sale at Longtown will be on Saturday 26 March 2022.
