Morrisons' Stores to £1,190 at Longtown Mart

There was a rather smaller entry for the Morrisons` supported Beef Shorthorn section of the sale at Longtown on Saturday 19th March but six consignors had cattle forward to an enthusiastic ringside of buyers with a strong trade experienced.  Top price was £1,190 for a pair of 22 month pure bred steers from J. & K. Meadley, High Bewaldeth, Cockermouth. Messrs Meadley also sold a cross Shorthorn steer at £1,140.  Another 22 month steer from Messrs Johnson, Calees Cottage, Brampton made £1,170 with F.R.Crew, Gall Farm, Lockerbie selling to £1,030 and £1,000.

Amongst the younger cattle, a pen of three pure Shorthorn yearlings from R. & J. Byers, Whitehill, Walton sold at £1,080 and four pens of yearlings from Matthew Thomson, Pilmuir, Hawick realised £1,045, £1,030, £990 and £945 with Steve Swales, Stonehouse Cote, Burnley at £950.

Overall the Beef Shorthorn stores averaged £1,019.
