Morrisons` Shorthorn Stores to £1,420

At Longtown on Saturday 18th March, the Morrisons` supported Beef Shorthorn section of the store cattle sale met strong demand with returns certainly reflecting the high prices currently being obtained through the live ring.

Overall average for Beef Shorthorn and Beef Shorthorn cross cattle was £1,277 with a top of £1,420 for a twenty month steer from the Archbank Farming Company, Moffat. This was closely followed by a steer from Messrs Johnson, Calees Cottage Brampton which made £1,400. A pair from R. & J. Byers, Whitehill, Brampton realised £1,340 with another pair, from the same home at £1,320. Also selling at £1,340 was a pair from Messrs Stobart, Croglin High Hall, Armathwaite with Matthew Thomson, Pilmuir, Hawick selling five yearlings to level at £1,310.

The next store cattle sale for Shorthorns and native breeds will be at Longtown on Tuesday 11th April.  The next Morrisons` supported store sale will be on Saturday 14th October.
