Morrisons' Shorthorn Stores to £1500

At Longtown on Saturday 14th October, the Morrisons` supported Beef Shorthorn section of the 1,200 head store cattle sale met strong demand.  The quality of the entry was a great advertisement for the breed.

Overall average for the entry of 91 Beef Shorthorns was £1,137 with a top of £1,500 for a cracking pen of four eighteen month steers from M. E. & T. D. Tailford, Gallaw Hill Farm, Riding Mill, Northumberland. Messrs Tailford sold further pens, each of four steers, for £1,470 and £1,450 per head.  Messrs Moscrop, Gibbs Hill, Roweltown sold a pen of three older steers at £1,490 with others from Gibbs Hill at £1,420 and £1,300.  Coming in at £1,360 was a seventeen month steer from J.A. & E. Dinwoodie, Archerbeck, Canonbie with others from J. Butler, Kirndean, Hawick at £1,340 and £1,300. 

Other leading prices included High Bewaldeth £1,140; Archerbeck £1,250, £1,220 & £1,200; Meinbank £1,160; Pilmuir £1,190 & £1,170; Kirndean £1,220 & £1,170; Winter Crag £1,180 & £1,170.
